Benefits of Composting

Why composting works

Composting is a natural process that transforms organic waste into valuable soil amendment. It reduces landfill waste, enriches soil, and supports sustainable agriculture.

Enriches Soil

Compost improves soil structure, porosity, and density, creating a better plant root environment.

Retains Moisture

Compost helps soil retain moisture and reduce water runoff, decreasing the need for irrigation.

Reduces Waste

Composting diverts organic materials from landfills, reducing methane emissions and waste volume.

Supports Plant Health

Compost introduces beneficial microorganisms to the soil and reduces the need for chemical fertilizers.

Applications

Where our compost goes to work

Compost can be applied in various settings to improve soil health and plant growth. Here are some common applications.

About Us

Veteran-owned, St. Augustine rooted

Indianhead Composting is a proud veteran-owned and operated facility, rooted in the heart of St. Augustine, Florida. We have been in the business of recycling wood since the early 2000s and expanded into composting in 2018. As natives of St. Augustine, we have always had a passion for recycling, and we are dedicated to turning organic waste into high-quality compost that enriches our local environment.

The name “Indianhead” is a nod to the historical legacy of the US Army’s 2nd Infantry Division, known as the “Indianhead” Division, which was formed during World War I and symbolized strength, resilience, and unity. These are values we strive to embody in our work. As a veteran-led business, we carry forward this spirit of service and dedication.

At Indianhead, we believe in giving back to the community that has supported us. We employ locals from disadvantaged communities, providing opportunities and fostering growth while producing affordable, high-quality compost. Our mission is to service the St. Augustine community and beyond, helping farmers, landscapers, and homeowners create a greener, more sustainable future, one compost pile at a time.
